What to Expect

Our Small Group Singapore Food Tour is a walking tour with public transport included. We begin at Kampong Glam, a vibrant hub of Malay and Islamic culture where you will discover the history of the former port town and different communities that have come to shape the food culture. You'll taste murtabak, teh tarik and Malay kuehs kuehs (traditional pastries).

Our next food stop takes us to Chinatown via the MRT (train). Comprising of 4 sub-districts - Kreta Ayer, Telok Ayer, Bukit Pasoh and Tanjong Pagar, Chinatown is a feast of sights and sounds. On this tour, we will explore Kreta Ayer in the the heart of Chinatown. Your expert guide will maneuver the group through the five-foot ways and conserved shophouses while sharing stories of early immigrants: their challenges, trades, and pastimes, all amidst the rich cultural backdrop of this vibrant neighborhood. Dig into a selection of local favourites - Hainanese chicken rice, oyster cake and popiah, and hear about our street hawker culture and discover why Singaporeans are passionate about eating.

After Chinatown, we'll take the MRT to the nation's oldest estate, Queenstown Singapore located on the city fringe. Known among locals as one of the best food neighbourhoods, you will also be treated to amazing views of the city from the sky garden atop one of Singapore's tallest public housing. Our final food stop of the Small Group Singapore Food Tour takes you to the famous Katong laksa, otah otah (spicy parcel of minced fish wrapped in banana leaves) and old-school snacks. The revered Katong laksa title has been claimed by many purveyors, you will find out what goes into making a hearty bowl of laksa and the story behind the laksa battle in Singapore.

What Makes Our Small Group Singapore Food Tour Different?

“The satay man, usually Malay, would bring his skewers and peanut sauce to Chinese communities, just as the Chinese noodle man would appear in Indian-dominant enclaves.”
- Lily Kong, author of Singapore Hawker Centres: People, Places, Food

Discover the Origins of Singapore Street Food

Street hawkers, many of whom were immigrants themselves, cooked dishes from their homelands using local ingredients adapted to suit the multicultural tastes of the community, resulting in the birth of Singaporean cuisine. Today, hawker centres and kopitiams (coffee houses) are vibrant hubs where local food continues to thrive.  The Small Group Singapore Food Tour dives into Singapore's culture where you get to taste authentic local foods at family-run hawker stalls nestled in vibrant neighbourhoods.

“When it comes to culture, especially food culture, we’re a community for whom sharing and absorbing ideas are not just in our DNA, it is our strength.”
- Khair Johari, Author, Food of Singapore Malays
