Singapore River is flanked by government and cultural institutions, such as the Asian Civilisations Museum and Parliament House, as well as former godowns that have been transformed into F&B establishments.
Originally conceived as the Old Hill Street Police Station, it was the largest government building and a modern skyscraper at the time of its completion in 1934. Painted in rainbow colors, can you figure out how many windows there are in total?
The original iteration of the building was the General Post Office, which later housed various government offices and tenants, such as the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Singapore Club.
Historically, Fort Canning Hill was called Bukit Larangan (meaning Forbidden Hill), where ancient kings were believed to be buried. Subsequently it was occupied by colonial governors until Fort Canning was built on it in the 1850s. We recommend a visit to Battle Box, the headquarters for the defending Allied forces against the invading Japanese army in the final days of the Malayan Campaign.

Homegrown restaurant JUMBO Seafood is one of the best restaurants to try Singapore Chili Crab. Best enjoyed with one’s hands, although JUMBO Seafood provides gloves and wet wipes for convenience. The pincers tend to contain the most meat, but the meat from the body and legs is equally tasty!
Long Bar in Raffles Hotel is where the signature Singapore Sling was conceived. A relaxed atmosphere beckons in this historic bar, where guests are invited to brush peanut shells off the bar and onto the floor—perhaps the only place in Singapore where littering is allowed. The bar is open to walk-ins only, so be prepared to queue for at least 30 minutes.
